Union Prefers Whitehall

The United States is often a topic of hot discussion in the Debating Chamber and in May 1934 the Society addressed the motion "This House has more faith in Washington than Whitehall." The motion was proposed by an American from King's College but failed to pass. A decade later, General (and subsequently President) Eisenhower took park in top secret meetings in the Society's building to discuss plans for the D-day landings in Normandy.
