"That this House prefers Girton to Newnham, because it is farther away" was a topic of debate in June 1932. Despite the motion (both colleges were female only at the time), no women were allowed to speak in the debate. The first woman spoke in a debate in 1946 and women were finally admitted as members in the 1960s. Today, the Society warmly welcomes all Cantabrigians into its diverse membership.
