The BBC, and especially its license fee, is often a hot topic of debate. In January 1930 the Society debated the rather verbose motion "That this House, beliving it to be the sole legitimate function of the British Broadcasting Corporation to provide entertainment in the English home, does not consider the British Broadcasting Corporation so far to have justified its existence." The motion was defeated with a large margin showing support for the young BBC.
