Book a place at an event

To book a place, first make sure you're logged in. Next, go to the termcard and click on the event you'd like to book; if you're logged in you'll then be presented with options to book yourself and any guests places.

The Cambridge IV is the prestigious international debating competition held annually at the Cambridge Union. It is open to any university team except those from Cambridge.


Results

The winners were Oxford LLM (Shengwu Li & Jonathan Leader Maynard). They defeated SOAS A (Jordan Anderson & Sheraz Qureshi), ULU A (Max Kasriel & Giles Robertson) and Oxford CH (Tom Hosking & Angela Cummine) in the final.

The judging panel for the final was Naomi Oreb (c), Harish Natarajan, Beth O'Connor, Doug Cochran, Alex Deane, Lewis Iwu and Ranald Clouston

Shengwu Li topped the speaker tab.

The ESL final was won by UCU BV (Micha Beekman & Joris Vincent), with Rob Honig finishing top ESL speaker on tab.

The motions for the IV were:

R1: THW reduce welfare payments to parents whose children break the law
R2: THB that it should be illegal to incite others to boycott an election
R3: THW replay international sporting events if an extreme umpiring error affects the result
R4: THBT the USA should pay war reparations to Vietnam
R5: THW allow children over the age of 13 to obtain gender-reassignment surgery without parental consent

QF: THB that California should create high schools that teach primarily in Spanish
SF: THB the State should refuse to assist in rebuilding areas prone to natural disasters
ESL Final: THW allow the conception of children using the sperm of someone who has died
Final: THB Western Nations should use military force to rescue journalists captured by the enemy
