Chancellor's Elections 2011
In October 2011 the position of Chancellor of the University was contested in a competitive election, the first of its kind in over 160 years.
The Cambridge Union Society was proud to host speeches from all four candidates prior to the elections, giving members and non-members a chance to meet and question them on their candidacy.
As a result of the election Lord Sainsbury of Turville was announced as the successor to Prince Philip as Chancellor of the University. The results were as follows:
| Name | Votes |
| Mr Abdul Arain | 312 |
| Mr Brian Blessed | 1389 |
| Michael Mansfield QC | 964 |
| Lord Sainsbury of Turville | 2893 |
